When to Replace Your Motorcycle’s Tires
Replacing your motorcycle’s tires at the correct time is an incredibly important part of both motorcycle maintenance and safety. A tire that’s in bad shape will not only cause damage to your model’s most important components but could lead to an accident or crash as well. To learn when your motorcycle’s tires will need to be replaced, check out our article below.
Expiration Date
Even if your tires are in perfect condition, once they reach their expiration date it’s time to have them replaced. On average, a motorcycle tire’s lifespan is about 6 years. After this point, the rubber will begin to deteriorate very rapidly and it will become unsafe to travel on them for much longer.
Tread
Few motorcycle riders have to replace their tires due to the rubber expiring. Instead, riders find the tread on their tires wearing down after extended use, and have to replace their set in order to avoid sliding or crashing out on the open road. To know when your motorcycle tire tread is too low, place a penny in the center groove of your tire with Lincoln’s head facing downward. If you’re able to see Lincoln’s head, this is a sign your tread is too worn down and your tires should be replaced immediately.
